whowhy in Claude
Last updated 21 October 2026
whowhy is an AI recruiter for founders who still do their own hiring. The whowhy connector lets you run it from Claude: start a role, see who we found and why, and pick whom to meet.
Connect
In Claude, open Customize → Connectors and add whowhy. To add it by hand, choose Add custom connector and paste this URL:
https://api.whowhy.io/functions/v1/mcp-server/directory
Sign in with your work email. Your first sign-in creates your whowhy account. No card is needed to start.
What you can ask
“Start a role for a founding engineer in Berlin. Here is the job description.”
“Which angles should we try, and why?”
“Show me the people you found and why each one fits.”
“Yes to the first three. No to the rest: too junior.”
“Who replied this week? Move the first one to Meeting.”
What it reads and changes
whowhy reads your roles, the people it found and the reason for each, your pipeline, and your conversations with candidates. It changes something only when you ask: it creates a role, saves your yes and no, edits the outreach email, or moves someone on your pipeline. Claude asks before every change. Archiving a role can be undone. The connector deletes nothing; saving a new email or new search locations replaces the previous ones.
Who gets an email
Nobody is written to until you approve the email for a role. Then whowhy writes from its own address, who@whowhy.io, and says it is an AI. You see only the people who said yes, and you choose whom to meet.
Pricing
$50 a meeting, charged when someone who replied moves to Meeting on your pipeline. Searching, reviewing and writing cost nothing. You add funds through Stripe.
In an MCP client that lets you set the URL, add ?read_only=true to it and every tool that changes something disappears.
Your data
Candidate profiles come from public professional sources and our data providers. Your data is stored in the EU (AWS Frankfurt, through Supabase). Claude sees what a tool returns, inside your conversation. The privacy policy below has the details.
